Plenty of us enjoys the refreshing taste of mint, either through drinks like iced tea or in recipes that call for it. Mint can even improve your digestion by stimulating your stomach’s production of digestive juices and acids, and it can also soothe an upset stomach if you have one. But did you know that mint is actually easy to grow indoors? With the right approach, you can grow mint indoors at home without even having to step outside, year-round! Here’s how to grow mint indoors (the right way).

Step 1: Choosing the plant

There are two varieties of mint most commonly used for indoor growing. They include peppermint and spearmint. Peppermint is a strong variety, meaning it has a very strong flavor and scent; it’s also considered invasive in some parts of North America, so you might want to avoid it if you don’t want your garden overtaken by the mint. This is especially true if you grow your plant from seed, which leads us to our next point…

Step 2: Setting Up

Start by adding a few inches of gravel to your pot and filling it with a mixture of one part soil, one part sand, and one part peat moss. The ideal pH is between 6.0 and 7.0. A pH too low or high will kill your mint sprouts before they even have a chance to grow properly! To test whether your soil is already at an appropriate level, you can simply take a small sample from your planter and place it in some water for about 20 minutes.

Step 3: Maintaining

The benefits of growing mint indoors are vast. It’s easy to grow from seed, is used in a wide variety of dishes, and has been scientifically proven to help improve overall mood by minimizing stress. How? Because it smells amazing! If you’re an apartment dweller or simply short on space, mint is great for growing indoors—it requires minimal sunlight and water and requires very little maintenance beyond occasional pruning.

Final Words and Tips

There are many benefits of growing mint indoors, and if you have a green thumb, it’s not difficult at all. However, there are some tricks that make growing mint indoors easier and with better results. The tips above will get you on your way in no time. The post should also include information on how to grow mint outdoors as well as how it can be used in cooking or any other ways to use it.
